Keep the ECU’s sensor ground separate from coil returns. Resistor plugs or leads should be used where the manufacturer recommends them. With noise managed, knock control remains trustworthy and sync errors disappear.

Setup in software is simple. Select the output type, set base dwell versus voltage using the values provided, and verify timing with a light. If the engine uses a cam angle sensor for sequential operation, confirm phase alignment once hot. The ECU can then run per-cylinder trims, staged rev limits, and boost-related timing strategies with confidence that spark will be delivered when commanded.

Troubleshooting is methodical. If a cylinder is weak, swap coils to rule them out, then move the igniter channel to see if the fault follows. Logs that include ignition cut, battery voltage, and dwell help isolate intermittent issues. Good igniters fail gracefully. Over-current or over-temperature protection shuts a channel down rather than taking out multiple components.
