On performance builds with high-draw accessories — electric fans, fuel pumps, ignition systems, audio equipment, and data acquisition — an adequate alternator output is essential for reliable electrical system function. And a quality high-torque starter is the difference between an engine that cranks briskly and one that labours to start, particularly on high-compression engines that require more cranking effort than standard applications.

High-Output Alternators for Performance Applications

Stock alternators are rated for the electrical loads of the original vehicle — often marginal for performance builds with significant additional electrical demands. A high-output alternator provides increased charge current at idle and through the operating range, ensuring the battery remains fully charged and all electrical systems receive adequate voltage even under maximum electrical load. For LS swap applications where the factory alternator mounting won't work with the new vehicle's accessory drive layout, correctly specified alternator brackets position the alternator in alignment with the drive belt for reliable, long-term function.

High-Torque Starter Motors

High-compression performance engines require more cranking effort than standard applications, and the starter motor must be capable of providing this effort reliably — including when the engine is hot and the heat-soaked starter is working against higher-than-normal internal engine temperatures.
