Ignition Coils & Drivers
Ignition Coils — High-Energy Spark for Performance Engines
The ignition coil is responsible for generating the high-voltage spark that ignites the fuel-air mixture in each cylinder. In a modern coil-on-plug system — the configuration used on LS and LT engines — each cylinder has its own dedicated coil that fires directly above the spark plug, eliminating the high-voltage distribution losses and timing precision limitations of a traditional distributor-and-cap system. The energy available from each coil directly affects combustion quality, particularly under demanding conditions of high compression, forced induction, and lean air-fuel ratios where a marginal spark can result in misfires and lost power.
With 282 coil products from ACCEL, MSD, Holley EFI, AEM Electronics, and ProConnect, our ignition coil range covers both direct replacement applications and high-energy upgrades for modified performance engines.
High-Energy Replacement Coils for LS and LT Engines
The factory LS coil is a competent unit for stock and mildly modified applications, but as power levels increase — through forced induction, increased compression, or aggressive timing — the demand on the ignition system increases proportionally. Under these conditions, a higher-energy coil that produces a stronger, longer-duration spark improves combustion quality, reduces misfires under boost, and ensures complete combustion of the compressed fuel-air charge. High-energy coils in our range are direct replacements for factory LS and LT units, requiring no wiring modification.
Coil Mounting Brackets and Organisation
On LS engines installed in vehicles where the factory coil mounting arrangement doesn't work — such as engine swap applications where the standard valve cover coil mounts conflict with the new vehicle's firewall or body — aftermarket coil relocation brackets allow the coils to be repositioned in a accessible location with clean wiring. These brackets are a key component of a professional LS swap installation where the ignition system is to be neatly organised rather than improvised.
Traditional Ignition Coils for Distributor-Based Systems
Traditional high-performance coils for Small Block and Big Block Chevrolet distributor-based ignition systems remain in our range to support the builders working with period-correct iron and the growing number of SBC and BBC-powered classic truck and muscle car builds. High-output coils paired with quality leads and a performance distributor extract the full potential of the ignition system on these traditional engines.
